Mortensons' July '25 Letter

July 2025

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for your faithful prayers for our family. June was a busy month and July is shaping up to be just as full. However, we thank the Lord for what He is doing in and through the busyness of ministry. We are currently in the midst of hosting another MMO surgical team and over the last several months with visiting groups we have had many questions about how MMO’s Rearick Surgical Center operates. Due to all of those questions I wanted to take this prayer update and highlight this amazing ministry and the strategic partnership that we share with Medical Missions Outreach. I also know that while you all pray faithfully for this ministry it is maybe hard to visualize what you are praying for. So if you would like to actually take a virtual tour of the RSC you can go to this link https://medical-outreach.com/trips/join-a-team/rearick-surgical-center.

To begin with, people ask where we find our patients. While some come through word of mouth, the vast majority are patients from the public hospital’s waiting list. In this way, we are able to provide free surgeries to those who cannot afford a surgery in one of the private hospitals. Many of our patients are from very humble means and many times simple surgeries are unattainable without charitable help. People also ask how much it costs to provide these surgeries. Per surgery would be hard to calculate but last year we were able to help over 100 patients and MMO’s in-country expenses were around $50,000. But because of the sacrificial giving of many people, we are able to provide these surgeries at absolutely no cost to the patients. That sacrificial giving begins with the surgeon and medical team who give of their time and abilities, but who also give financially to help cover the expenses of their trip. There are also churches and individuals who support Medical Missions Outreach on a monthly basis. MMO is a very worthy ministry for continuous support, and on their site they have links if the Lord would lead you to partner on a regular basis. I know that I have shared this before, but our ultimate aim through medicine is to share Christ with every patient. MMO’s slogan is “Pointing Others to the Great Physician,” and the door of medicine makes for hearts that are sensitive to hear and respond to the Gospel. Please concentrate your prayers this week on the surgical team and support volunteers as we minister for the Lord to these patients and their families. Thank you again for your faithful prayers for us.

PRAYER REQUEST
  • Please pray for God’s blessing on the the surgical team serving with us this week.
  • Also pray for the patients we will serve, that they would respond to the gospel of salvation in Jesus.
  • Thank you for continuing to pray for the Lord’s blessing as we grow in our understanding of Type 1 Diabetes.

Love in Christ,
Nate and Cori with Mykenzie, Grant, Blake and Savanna
