Subic Bay Children's Home - Aug. 2025
August 2025
Dear Friends,
A lot has happened this month, and we want to take a moment to share what’s been going on, not only to keep you informed, but also to ask for your continued prayers and support.
Three of our children—Jericho, Chris Albert, and Althea—were hospitalized recently. It’s been a difficult time, but God has been faithful. Jericho was in the hospital for 11 days. It was hard seeing him go through so much, but we’re so grateful to say he’s finally home, fully recovered, and continuing with his maintenance care. Chris Albert has been healing well. The swelling on his face has gone down, and today his stitches are being removed. Althea gave us a real scare when she began vomiting blood and had to be rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, she’s now back home with us and on medication. She’ll need to return for another check-up this coming Saturday, and we’re praying for good news.
We’re sharing these updates not just to let you know what’s happening, but also because we know we can count on your prayers. These children mean the world to us, and every challenge they face weighs heavily on our hearts.
There’s also something bigger going on that we feel is important to share. The Philippines is in the midst of what can only be described as spiritual warfare. More missionaries are being sent out from our nation than ever before—a beautiful sign of God’s movement. But with that, we’ve also seen the enemy push back. Victories for Jesus never go uncontested.
One situation that has deeply shaken us involves a fellow missionary, Pastor Ferguson, who had been faithfully caring for 150 children at a children’s home in Pampanga. Pastor Ferguson has dedicated his life to serving the most vulnerable, offering love, protection, and the hope of Christ to children who had nowhere else to go. He created a home for them—more than just shelter, it was a place where they felt safe, seen, and valued. But now, in a devastating turn of events, he has been imprisoned. As far as we understand, he was taken without proper due process. There has been little to no transparency surrounding the charges or the reasons for his detainment. It’s heartbreaking, not only because of the injustice he may be facing, but also because 150 children have now been left without the shepherd who was guiding them. We can only imagine the confusion and fear they must be feeling.
This situation speaks to something deeper happening in our nation. It seems that the very people trying to bring healing, love, and light into dark places are being met with resistance. It’s hard not to feel the weight of spiritual warfare in moments like these. And yet, we know that God is still sovereign. He sees everything, even what is done in secret. He is a God of justice, and He defends the oppressed. We are praying fervently for Pastor Ferguson—for his protection, for strength in his spirit, and for peace in the middle of this trial. We are also praying for the children he served, that they would continue to feel the presence of God even in the absence of the one who had been their earthly caretaker. Most of all, we are praying for truth to come to light, and for justice to prevail—not just in this one case, but for all who serve quietly and faithfully in the Kingdom, often unseen and unprotected.
We humbly ask you to join us in interceding for him. This is a time for the body of Christ to come together, to stand in the gap for one another, and to remember that even in the valley, we are not alone. God is with us—and He is with Pastor Ferguson, too.
Just this past Thursday and Friday, our home was also interrogated by representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It was a difficult experience. We are cooperating fully, but it is incredibly disheartening to face obstacles from the very institutions that are supposed to support children’s welfare. We know we are called to this work, and we will not give up. Still, we ask for your prayers—for protection, for wisdom, and for truth to come to light.
Despite the trials, we are holding on to hope. God has never failed us. He sees these children. He knows their stories, their pain, and their potential. And we believe He is still working through all of this.
Thank you for standing with us. Your prayers, your support, and your love mean more than we can say. We truly couldn’t do this without you.
With grateful hearts,
Your Subic Bay Children’s Home Family
