A Valbuena Prayer Request

Dear Friends,

Wednesday morning (7/24) Typhoon Carina made landfall hitting us with loads of heavy rains. In a short few hours Carina had caused flooding and landslides.

Early Thursday morning I, Annalisa, made contact with our local police and government unit and was told that we have 10 evacuation sites, and the total count of evacuees was 1,258. I immediately got on the phone and rallied up a group of volunteers to go out and provide food and hygiene kits and prayers for the displaced families.

By 9am we were at the first evacuation center, and we were able to feed them their first hot meal and provide them with a hygiene kit to help them freshen up. Pastor Odek was able to gather the evacuees all together where he shared the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We proceeded to make rounds to all 10 sites with a quick lunch break in between while waiting for the next batch of food to be cooked. We wrapped up with the last evacuation site around 7:30 pm.

We praise God for our team of volunteers comprised of Pastor Odek and me (Annalisa Valbuena), Timothy and Elizabeth Valbuena (siblings), Ruel Villamiel, Jericho and Jericha Lopez (siblings), Alyssa and Andrei Manalansan (siblings), Pastor Joland and Pastor Johnmark, several ladies of our church, Dayanara and Milan Manglicmot, Kathy Manalansan, Lyn Perez and Norie DeRamos. The team was also accompanied by Police officers Mary Ann Sadaba, Reynald Parentela, Kristel Ngawit, Mary Grace Diawa, who escorted and paved a smoother way for our operation.

We praise God that we had a little over 500 dollars left in our project Dorcas account which was just enough to cover the expenses.

The Funds also came in for the repairs of the mission church of San Martin Cawag that had a tree fall onto it. We will be able to have that rebuilt when the storm finally passes.

The property of Subic Bay Children’s Home is mountainous area, so we do not suffer from flooding but soil erosions. That is actually what happened during the passing of typhoon carina. A portion on the west side of the children’s home property had major soil erosion and we know that we really need to get a retaining wall built as soon as possible.

Thank you all so very much for all your support!
