April 2019

Dear Partners,

As we all labor for God’s glory, we are reminded of our two-sided primary purpose in proclaiming the gospel of Christ. We preach for repentance of sin by sinners, i.e., turning from sins unto God. This is salvific or evangelistic proclamation as in 1 Thessalonians 1:5, 9. We are to faithfully and tirelessly reach out to the unsaved as Jesus commanded us in the great commission. We also preach for confession of sin by saints. This is sanctification or discipleship as apostle Paul noted well, “We proclaim Him, instructing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man mature in Christ” (Colossians 1:28). We are to faithfully and tirelessly instruct and teach every man with a purpose of presenting them as mature believers before Christ. We thank God for the opportunities given to us for these purposes. We also thank you for praying and supporting us for these effects in the past month during our furlough schedule through April 2019.

We praise the Lord for Ministry opportunities: From cold Cottage Grove in Minnesota, to the hills of Colorado Springs in Colorado, and finally back to Greene and Altoona in the plains of Iowa. With differences of weather or beauty in different States, we met wonderfully warm-hearted people and with great moments shared both physical and spiritual meals together. We do thank God for their prayers and support for our ministry now and in the future. Our interaction with the pastors and their families is an enrichment as we share our personal, family, and ministry challenges and thus build each other for ministry.

The month of April 2019 had two key importance to us. First, we had four final stops that ended our ministry report: Elyria in Ohio; Ashton, Des Moines, and Carlisle in Iowa. Secondly, Stephen was “set free.” I mean it was his jubilee (turned 50 years old). Any secret for that number? Please share. With all these, pray for us to finish our furlough strongly with transition and packaging and shipping. Pray for all final monthly and ministry supports to come in. We recognize that some churches are in the process of sending support and special gifts for ministry projects such as building project, ministry van, tablets, sewing project, Bibles and literature, etc. Every gift given is important to us and we do take it seriously. As you make your gift through Baptist Mid-Missions, please indicate what area of ministry you would like to be allocated.

Pray for us as we will be trying to rest enough while Rena completes her 9th grade school year in May 2019 and going on a mission trip to Utah with Ankeny Baptist Church youth ministry in June 2019. Pray for Ian and Regina as they study biology at Iowa State University. Pray for spiritual growth of all of our kids. Without God’s help, our parenting will not avail much to our children. Edna has continued to be an ever-present helper and her testimony and support is exemplary. Please pray for us that this summer will be spiritually productive as Stephen attends two modules at Faith Baptist Theological Seminary in June 2019, and then leaves the country on July 4, 2019.

Please pray for wisdom in regard to packing and getting what we need to carry with us and for the ministry in Kenya as they get ready to have us back after 18 months away. We truly long to be back and be where the Lord wants us to be right now. Remember to be ready to visit with us in Kenya. You have a role in this ministry with us and so please hold our hands in partnership. “Oh, Magnify the Lord, and let us exalt his name together!” (Psalm 34:3).
