The Mortensons’ New Year Letter

January 2024

Dear Family and Friends,

Happy New Year!  It is crazy to think that we are already in 2024.  The new year reminds us that we have new opportunities to serve the King of kings and the Lord of lords.  What a privilege to serve our wonderful Savior.  Also with the new year we are reminded to recommit ourselves to the Lord.  One of the dangers of being a living sacrifice is that we can climb back off of the alter, if you know what I mean.  I am thankful that every new year I naturally have a reminder to, anew and afresh, commit my life to Him.  That is certainly our desire and we hope that it is yours as well.

We had a wonderful Christmas season which included several special Christmas activities as a church and some Christmas activities as Team Honduras (the American missionaries serving together here).  We also enjoyed the visit of some dear friends from our sending church in Florida.  It was fun for us to be able to share some of the exciting parts of living in Honduras with our friends.

Getting into the new year, we are restarting our Saturday morning Bible clubs in the neighborhoods surrounding the church.  We always take a break in November and December because it is the rainy season here and the soccer fields that we use are typically very muddy during the rainy season.   But we are looking forward to getting back into a good rhythm and are thankful for the opportunity to minister to the kids in both of these neighborhoods.

Cori and the kids are jumping back into homeschooling.  We are targeting to finish the school year a little earlier this year because of several events that will be in the first part of the summer.  The kids have been working diligently to meet this goal and so are excited to be ahead of their friends, in terms of lessons completed.  It is kind of silly but they are enjoying that aspect of the school schedule this year.

Thank you for your partnership with us both in prayer and financially.  May the Lord continue to bless you all in this new year.

Prayer & Praise:

  • Pray for God’s grace and presence to be evident in all that we do.
  • Pray for the Saturday morning Bible Clubs, that there would be receptive hearts in these children.
  • Thank you for your continued prayers for wisdom as we grow in our understanding of Type 1 diabetes, and how to best help Blake.
  • Praise the Lord for a wonderful Christmas and the opportunities in this new year.

Until He comes,
Nate and Cori, with Mykenzie, Grant, Blake and Savanna
