The Mortensons’ May Letter

May 2023

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for your faithful prayers and encouragement.  God continues to show Himself good, and we are thankful for the privilege to advance His kingdom here in Honduras.

In last month’s update I shared very briefly about the tragic passing of Jadon Goins (Matt and Dallita Goins’ 19 year old son who was killed by a drunk driver).  Obviously, only God could have foreseen something like this, and while we are getting to the place where the shock is wearing off, there are days where it still doesn’t seem real.  Our grief cannot be compared to that of our friends’, but it has definitely been a searching time for us and our kids.  Please continue to pray for the Goins family, and for our family (especially our older kids) that God’s presence and comfort would be felt, and that our faith would show forth His glory.

As everyone is learning a new rhythm and pace of life, there are many things that have marched on, and we are grateful for how the Lord is working.  I finished teaching the theology class that I was teaching on Sunday nights and all of the students passed with good grades.  Also our Saturday morning Bible clubs have been going really well.  We have 25 faithful kids at our primary location and 12 at the secondary location.  This past month there were 3 kids who trusted Christ as their Savior after a Saturday club!  Ministry here is always busy because of the partnerships that make up Team Honduras.  Already this year we have helped host 2 surgical teams at the Rearick Surgical Center (Medical Mission’s Outreach).  The last one finished up last week and had a GYN surgeon.  The team was able to perform 14 surgeries and help several women with some serious health struggles, because this was a team targeting women’s health.  We had several ladies from the church who served as our soul winners, presenting the gospel to each patient.  It is such an awesome opportunity to minister, meeting both physical and spiritual needs.  Thank you again for your prayers for us.

Prayer & Praise:

  • Pray for God’s continued blessing in the Gospel advance through the many ministries of Team Honduras.
  • For God to continue to bless our Bible clubs and that more kids would grasp the good news of the gospel.
  • For continued healing of grieving hearts (Jadon Goins was very loved by many as he lived 18 of his 19 years here in Honduras).
  • Continue to pray for wisdom as we grow in our understanding of Type 1 diabetes, and how to best help Blake.

From Honduras,
