Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
It’s not faith or works, it’s faith and works. The two go hand in hand. My faith is proven by walking out my Christian life in shoe leather. I do because I believe. What is my faith in: myself or another frail man, a religious system of dos and don’ts, or blind rituals? No! My faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ, the one who died and was buried and rose again the third day to pay my sin debt and give me eternal life here and now and a home in heaven on the day He chooses. Until then I can walk in newness of life here and today. I have His holy written word the Bible as my instruction manual and the Holy Spirit as my teacher and guide. My faith is on solid ground.
We are making some forward progress. It is much slower than we want but out of our control. One of my pastor friends told me I had to grow where God planted me. The ongoing pandemic is still making things difficult. Most government offices are still working from home, as are schools and colleges. Driving restrictions get lifted then go back into effect after only a two-week break. Inventory and supplies at stores are thinning down. What used to take one week to ship here is now four to six weeks. Nineteen months of this has taken a toll on everyone, believers included. God help us all to stay the course and finish well for Your honor and glory and that we might be used to bring some more souls to you.
We have enjoyed learning our way around the nearby city, meeting vendors and workers and even running into other Americans, and getting to know the culture and why the people do things like they do. I tell people about the only things that are the same are the earth is round and we breathe the same air. Everything else is different. September 15 was the country’s Independence Day, 200 years after separating from Spain. A really big deal here like July 4th in the U.S. But here not much took place in the way of celebration because of the Covid restrictions. Most everything was done online or on TV. The church did have a meal after service. That was a nice change and big help to the brethren to have some fellowship and not having to leave right away. Felt like church again for a few minutes.
We officially became members of the church, Iglesia Bautista el Calvario de San Ramon. Now Kevin is on the preaching/teaching schedule. Sonya is helping in the ladies areas and with the children’s classes. Bethany goes to youth events at 2 churches and plays piano on Wednesday nights. We continue to plug in as our Spanish improves and the people get to know us and feel comfortable with us. We are one of two American families in the church, ha-ha. The people have really opened their hearts toward us and let us become part of them.
We visited Campamento Bereca and spent the day there. It is a men only recovery program for addicts. The men who stay for the entire program could really use the technical skills training we will offer. We are praying with the directors if the Lord would open the door and then work out the details on how to help in this area. We just got our legal paperwork back from changing the name and address of the technical school. We are working with the pastor and men of our church and those in the seminary on the specifics of how it will all mesh here and best meet the needs of the students. Right now we are praying for additional instructors to have multiple classes going daily. We are working with the church men to finish up some remodeling that the pandemic stopped and hopefully get those things buttoned up soon, Lord willing.
Thank you all for the part in this work you play. We know some are praying, some are giving, some call us, text us, message us. All are vital parts, and all are very much appreciated. We are grateful!
