I want to give an update on the progress of our building fund. As a reminder we are trying to raise $165,000 to purchase a piece of property with an already existing building. As of the middle of September, we have raised over $30,000 towards our goal. This puts us at about 20% of our goal. Our Thai church continues to raise funds that we will use toward repairs (estimated at about $30,000). We are seeing progress, slowly but surely.
A common question is “what if the property sells and/or we can’t raise the funds. What happens to what was already given? This is an excellent question. We are currently searching for other properties that might be suitable for purchase in the event the building we are waiting for sells. Additionally, we are more than happy to accept pledges/commitments and wait for the funds until we have sufficient commitments. We are flexible and would be happy to discuss any details with you.
An additional blessing in this project is that during COVID, the dollar has been strengthening against the Thai Baht. It has appreciated about 10% in the past 6 months. This means that the property will be potentially cheaper by about 10-20,000 dollars ($150,000 vs $165,000). Of course this all depends on timing and right now the timing couldn’t be better. Many forecasters expect the Baht to continue to depreciate in the last quarter of the year.
