It’s hard to believe that it has been 3 years since BJ and Melissa left for Brazil. If you have never had the opportunity to personally meet the Holmquists allow me to introduce you to them via the web. If you do know them, did you know that the Holmquist’s just had a new baby girl? Brendan (BJ) and Melissa Holmquist were interns for Burgess Road back in 2003 (Have you seen their blog yet?) and It was during that time (more…)
Which is the greater miracle, giving birth or raising the dead? I am not feeling too qualified on either one of these topics, but that won’t stop me from drawing a comparison here. I have neither given birth nor raised the dead. Both in their own right are incredible miracles that God is involved in. A new birth brings new life, joy, excitement and a lot of work to follow. On Wednesday (May 5, 2010) we have an opportunity to give an offering for Hope Anderson. Chris and Anita Anderson’s daughter is going on a medical missions trip to Peru. In addition to the love offering we will take up, the medical team is in need of some specific items which we are collecting in the foyer. Here is a description of what she will be doing…
Since high school, I have had a growing interest in missions and ministry in general. I have been blessed to spend the last four summers in camp ministries. Through these experiences, I have learned valuable skills in leadership and Biblical counseling. This May, I will be graduating from Pensacola Christian College with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. This fall, I will be teaching at a Christian school in Columbus, Georgia.
When it comes to missions, many say that your eyes affect your heart. Honestly, I’m dying to see. This January, I was thrilled to join a medical missions team to Arequipa, Peru for this summer. The dates for the trip are June 1st-15th. We will be assisting veteran missionaries, Jeremy and Bekah Hall. We will be setting up a medical clinic in an area of great poverty. In addition to caring for the Peruvians’ physical needs, we will also have the opportunity to care for their spiritual need of salvation.
The cost of the trip is $2,500 per person. So far, the Lord has graciously provided the first half. I still need to raise the last portion in order to be able to go. The original deadline was April 5, but has been extended to May 10th.
First and foremost, I ask that you continue to pray for me and the people we will serve. I also ask that you prayerfully consider giving, if you have not already done so, that you may be a co-laborer in the Lord’s work in Peru. Thank you for your part in making this missions trip possible. Please make checks payable to GO FORTH BAPTIST MISSIONS. The mission board will in turn send you a receipt for your tax deductible donation. Please send all funds directly to me in order avoid delayed mail through the college campus.
I am thrilled about this opportunity to serve a short time in Peru. Thank you so much for your prayers and support. You are helping meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people in Arequipa. After our return in June, I will send you a letter on the the results and blessings of our trip. May God richly bless you!
