Valbuena Notes

The latest from the Valbuena family (January 2015)

Dear Friends,

Once again, the Lord has been gracious! The Lord has blessed us in the year that has just passed! The construction of the School/Church building is underway and is coming along nicely. We praise God for our brethren who gave towards this building project which enabled us to begin construction. We continue to pray for God’s provision and that His hand be in it till the completion.

Arnulfo, Jomarie and Paul was saved! After Pastor Rodrigo (Odek) Valbuena’s message Amulfo, Jomarie and Paul, three of the children of SBCHome, came Forward with others. It is our desire and prayer that the children come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Although we may give all the needs and comforts deprived from them it is only through a relationship with Christ will they ever truly be content, joyful and have life more abundantly.

THANKSGIVING 2014: I thank God and those who He used to provide for our Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year Meal. For Thanksgiving we had a traditional American dinner with the turkey, sides and pies. For Christmas we did a spaghetti dinner and an assortment of sweets and a chocolate fountain. For New Year’s we did kabobs, and grilled hotdogs and after the fireworks display we had southern chicken and dumplings.

Several months ago I (Annalisa) received a phone call from Jake, a young man who was once a child in Subic Bay Children’s Home. The call was conceming a two week old baby. The mother, who is a Married woman, had an affair with a married man and in result Jeremiah was conceived. Neither family wanted to have anything to do with Jeremiah. The mother of Jeremiah is an I acquaintance of Jake and knew of Jake being cared for as a child by SBCHome. The day I received a call from Jake he informed me that he did not know what to do and that the mother just showed up at his apartment and left the baby. I told Jake that he could bring the baby to me. Jake, who now lives in a city several hours away, found someone to accompany him who knew a thing or two about babies and arrived at my house around 8pm. Jake had bought one feeding bottle, a small can of formula and a small pack of diapers. We named the ba- by Jeremiah. Jeremiah is now a thriving three month old and he brings so much joy to all at Subic Bay Children’s Home.

We continue to ask for prayers for the children of Subic Bay Children’s Home as well as the staff. Specifically prayers of patience and empathy towards the children and that the children will always be appreciative.

We, the Fulfer and Valbuena Families and all the children of Subic Bay Children’s Home, thank you so much for your continuous prayers and support for this ministry. May God bless you!

April 2015

Dear praying partners,

Happy Thai New Year. The Thai New Year is celebrated during our hottest month of the year, April. Water fights all over town are the order of the day and are an event not to be missed.

Since our last letter, we are happy to report that the Bible Institute is up and running again. We have eight students studying this term. What a blessing to be able to return to teaching the Word of God, preparing future servants for ministry. Most of our students are women, but it is great that they have a desire to learn more of God’s word. We have secured a location for showing movies in a local school where a fellow missionary in our church teaches. We hope to be able to show movies monthly at this venue. We have also expanded our outreach to another superstore near the University where I teach (about 5 KM from our church) to check blood pressure for free. We have done this in the past in markets, but the business made it difficult to actually engage people. Being in a less congested area with less traffic allows us to talk with folks one on one in a very productive way. We couple this with a spiritual survey to open the door to spiritual things. The last time we did this type of outreach we were able to clearly share the Gospel with every person that checked his or her pressure. We continue to pass out tracts regularly but with little response. Regardless, we know that the Word of the Lord is being sown. We now ask the Lord of harvest to bring forth much fruit.

The University ministry is going well. The school keeps the kids pretty busy so it is difficult for them to come faithfully to church. The Lord has allowed me to share the Gospel with many of the students though. This term I have about 60 students in three classes. It is a blessing to be able to have an outreach such as this.

Please pray for Nuey, Niran, Pom, No, Aom, Ying, Dtuy, Saeng-Tong, Jan, Ohy, and Mike’s students for salvation. Pray for the men of the church to be faithful. Please pray for other locations to show movies in various neighborhoods. Also please pray for our daughter Hannah as she finishes her second semester at Christian College; that she will continue to make the transition to the USA and college life and for her tuition (for which we are falling further and further behind).

We pray God’s blessing as you serve.

January 2015

Dear praying partners,

Happy New Year. It has been an exciting time since our last letter. We celebrated our 10th anniversary, went to camp, had a Christmas party and our third grandchild was born.

Since we first showed a movie in one of the neighborhoods, we have been unable to secure another venue. We are looking at a few different areas and Lord willing we will be able to see this ministry get off the ground. Please pray for an opening at the university. This would be an ideal location.

Ooy was finally able to be baptized. We haven’t had a baptism service in quite some time, so it was an especially exciting time. We took the church to a nearby river and had a great picnic lunch fellowship after the Sunday service. Unfortunately we were unable to play in the water and go tubing as it was pretty cold (at least for us; it was about 77 F.) One young man, who has been coming to church for a few months, has finally started showing some interest in the Gospel. He has been noticing the folly of idol worship and the hopelessness of Buddhism recently. Pray that Niran will be saved soon.

I will start helping at the University again in mid January. The Lord has opened up many possibilities at the University. We recently had three more students visit (all unsaved). Lord willing, with the start of the second term, we will see more students come to know the Lord.

Please pray for Nuey, Pom, No, Aom, Ying, Dtuy, Saeng-Tong, Jan, Ohy, and Mike’s students for salvation. Pray for the men of the church to be faithful. Please pray for locations to show movies in various neighborhoods. Also please pray for our daughter Hannah as she starts her second semester at Christian College, that she will continue to make the transition to the USA and college life, and for her tuition.

We pray God’s blessing as you serve.
